About
Richie is a first-generation Colombian, born and raised on Long Island. He currently works in the Greater NYC Area and runs the boutique video production company, Oneonefive.
His primary work for the past decade has been as a Director/Cinematographer in the music video, documentary, narrative, and commercial spaces.
While most of his work is as a cinematographer/director for hire, he continues to write and direct his own narrative films on the side. They are largely influenced by filmmakers like John Cassavetes, Claire Denis, Harmony Korine, and Apichatpong Weerasethakul. He is greatly inspired by the long tradition of filmmakers mixing verité documentary techniques with fiction stories. From Kiarostami to The Dardenne Brothers, to even contemporary filmmakers like Sean Baker and Chloé Zhao; Richie feels inviting reality into your film is the best thing one could do. His deep appreciation for art-house cinema has not only influenced his shooting style, but has also greatly benefited his work as a cinematographer for other directors.
He is currently in late development stages of his first narrative feature-length film, The Earth Belongs to Me. It is a film that explores the complex connection between violence and masculinity in male adolescents, as well as the liminal space between the material world and the spiritual world. Though the film plot has a traditional arc akin to popular coming-of-age movies like "The Outsiders" or "Stand By Me," it owes much more in it’s approach to films like "Place Beyond the Pines," "Husbands," and "Gummo."
